The Pentax P-70 takes ultra small compact cameras to a new level . Its got tons of features . 12 million pixels & it does not generate enormous amounts of noise unlike many others with 10 or 12 million pixels . Superb quality Penatx 27 to 110 wide optical zoom lens that makes it ideal for both landscapes ( views ) & genral home photography . 4 to 1/1000th second shutter speed range . Automatic with various scene modes . Amazing HD Video mode that gives 30 seconds of superb quality video from a 2 gigabyte SD card - you dont need a camcorder if you get a P-70 . Top quality 2.7 inch screen that can be used in sunlight . High speed continuous shooting mode . VR anti shake mode . Various light metering modes . The P-70 has tons of features but most people will just use it in its automatic mode . Rechargeable Lithium battery . Uses optional SD memory cards but also has a usefull 33 megabytes of internal memory .
Using the P-70 is as easy as it gets for any digital camera . It looks fantastic . It feels superbly made when you pick it up . Its super fast to turn on & take pictures . I tried it out in many of the various scene modes & in its fully automatic mode i found that picture taking was so fast & easy - anyone can use the P-70 & get great results . Changing the settings is also very easy if you want to - the on screen menus are easy to navigate . Viewing pictures is just by pressing one button on the back - deleting is as easy .
Picture quality at this price range is what counts - the P-70 scores big time with this - quite simply it gives razor sharp pictures ! . Indoors i could take pictures up to 22 feet away & get sharp results - over that & the quality does go down a little but even up to 35 feet the pictures were ok . Outdoors its superb as well . The exposure system copes with any light situations - bright sunlight to dull days are no problem for the P-70 . The auto focus system at last get face recognition right - it works ! . I printed several pictures to 14x11 inches size & they were all very sharp . The picture of my car below is just one example of this . Then there is the video mode ... who needs a coamcorder now when the P-70 has a great lens combined with true HD video that gives quality videos even when they are watched on very large flat screen HD TVs .
There are loads of ultr small sized cameras around now - Sony have a fair few - Casio have some including the very good Z-1 - Canon have the expensive Ixus range - etc - etc . Some are good - others are very poor & all are expensive ( over the £120 mark ) but none can match the Pentax P-70 in terms of picture quality or pure style ... see it & you will want it !
